Description

Graphitized Petroleum Coke (GPC) is a commonly used carbon material in the production of anodes for aluminum smelting. Anodes are used in the electrolytic process of aluminum production to conduct electricity and to transfer oxygen to the aluminum during the smelting process. GPC is an ideal material for this application due to its high purity, low sulfur and nitrogen content, and excellent electrical conductivity.

To produce anodes, GPC is typically mixed with a binder material such as coal tar pitch and then extruded into the desired shape and size. The resulting green anodes are then baked at high temperatures to remove any remaining volatile materials and to graphitize the coke particles. The final step is to impregnate the anodes with a pitch or resin binder to improve their mechanical strength and electrical conductivity.
